Addiction

For parents of a child who is addicted:

Dear Lord God, We cling to your Word that says "Nothing is impossible with God." We cry out to you on behalf of ___, asking you to rescue __ from this addiction. You alone are the Savior. We pray for your grace to be poured out on this life. We pray that you will intervene in the physical -- take away the cravings. We ask you to intervene mentally - give clear, rational thinking. Please intervene in the spiritual -- banish the demons far away, silence their lies, and protect __ by your Holy Spirit. Lord, we know that your hand is not too short that it cannot save. We ask you to rescue __ in a wonderful and powerful way. Show _ that the thirsts and the cravings can only be filled by You. We cry out to you and ask that the reality, the truth of what our Mighty Savior has done will give courage, wisdom and strength to these parents. Fill them with your peace and your wisdom. Thank you that our guilt and regrets have been wiped away and forgiven by your death on the cross. Thank you that when we are overwhelmed, we can hide in the Rock and simply trust in you -- and know that all is well. In Jesus' name, Amen.

For myself:
Dear Lord Jesus, I am desperate for You. I need You more than anything else. Rescue me from this addiction. I cannot do it on my own. You alone are the Savior. I am bound. Please set me free. I am weak. Please be my strength. Take away all the cravings. Give me clear, rational thinking. Banish the demons far away away for me, silence their lies, and protect me by your Holy Spirit. When I am tempted to fall back, remind me that my thirsts and cravings can only be filled by You. Please deliver me completely from this addiction. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, please give me a new life - an abundant life - that you have designed for me. Lead me to Your Cross, to Your Word, and to Christian friends who will help me on this journey. I surrender and put my trust in You alone. Amen.
