Cancer

For myself

Lord God, you know my heart. I am afraid. Please take my fears and give me courage to face tomorrow. Lord, you know my body. Your Word says that I am wonderfully and fearfully made. Please, if it is your will, touch me with your healing hand and remove every cancer cell from my body. Lord, you know my future. Your plans for me are good -- to give me hope and a future. Help me to rest in the safety of your loving arms. Help me keep my eyes upon you and to follow wherever you lead me. I surrender to Your love,, believing that nothing can separate me from your love. In the name of Jesus, my Savior and Lord, Amen.

Thank you, Lord, for my cancer

(Adapted from CORRESPONDENCE WITH GOD by Nancy Tuttle)

Dear God,
Thank you, God, for my cancer. You are in control and You do love me. You know what is best for me and my loved ones. You have a plan. Help me to trust in You and be part of Your plan. Thank you, God, for loving us enough to send Your precious Son, Jesus Christ, to live, to teach us about You, to die in order to give us forgiveness of our sins. Thank you for all the opportunities You’ve given me. Use my cancer to help me teach others about You. Thank you, Lord, for using cancer as a teacher for me - to slow me down and put me in touch with You. Make me strong through my weakness and my dependence on You. Cancer has made me aware that my time on earth is temporary. I don’t want to waste my days with meaningless activities. I want to choose to spend my time doing things that will help me to grow more Christ-like. God, I give you my time. Amen.

For a woman with cancer

Dear God,
How we need You! You alone are God and we are not. You alone are all-powerful, all-wise, all-merciful and all-loving. You alone are trustworthy! We recognize that we are more sinful than we could ever imagine, but we cling to Jesus right now, who lived the perfect life that we could never live and who died the death that we deserved to die. And because of Him, we come boldly before You now, asking you to intervene in __'s life in a wonderful and powerful way. Lord, we know that you are the Great Physician. Sometimes you heal with miracles, sometimes through doctors and medicine, sometimes with time, and sometimes by taking us Home to be with You where you'll give us new resurrection bodies that no longer feel pain. On behalf of all who love _, we ask that you will touch her and heal every cell in her body. Would you remove every cancer cell? We pray that she will feel and know Your Presence and rest comfortably in Your arms of love. Please ease her pain and bring comfort and joy to her. When she feels like she can't go on, give her hope. Help her to draw near to You and to give all of her pain, all of her fear, all of her life to you. Lord, we also pray for comfort her family and friends during this difficult time. Please help them to "lean hard" into your arms and find strength and comfort from You. May Jesus Christ become even more precious to all of them because of her cancer. We want nothing less than your perfect will, Lord, so we surrender this request to you, asking you to answer it in Your way and in Your time - for your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO

IT CANNOT CRIPPLE LOVE
Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever. From 1 Corinthians 13, TLB

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:35-39, NIV

IT CANNOT SHATTER HOPE
Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. -Psalm 25:4-5, NIV

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
-Psalm 62:5-6, NIV)

IT CANNOT CORRODE FAITH
What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.
-Hebrews 11:1, TLB

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.
-Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV

IT CANNOT DESTROY PEACE
I am leaving you with a gift-- peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid.
-John 14:27, TLB

So now, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
-Romans 5:1, TLB

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
-Philippians 4:7, NIV

IT CANNOT KILL FRIENDSHIP
Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better. If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he's in trouble. Also, on a cold night, two under the same blanket gain warmth from each other, but how can one be warm alone? And one standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer; three is even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
-Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, TLB

When I pray for you, my heart is full of joy because of all your wonderful help…and I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace until his task within you is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns. How natural it is that I should feel as I do about you, for you have a very special place in my heart.
Philippians 1:4-7, TLB

IT CANNOT SUPPRESS MEMORIES
Yes, I will bless the Lord and not forget the glorious things he does for me.
-Psalm 103:1, TLB

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart…
-Philippians 1:3-7, NIV

IT CANNOT SILENCE COURAGE
God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble. And so we need not fear…
-Psalm 46:1-2, TLB

But Christ, God's faithful Son, is in complete charge of God's house. And we Christians are God's house-- he lives in us!-- if we keep up our courage firm to the end, and our joy and our trust in the Lord.
-Hebrews 3:6

IT CANNOT INVADE THE SOUL
"Don't be afraid of those who can kill only your bodies-- but can't touch your souls! Fear only God who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
-Matthew 10:28, TLB

Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
-Mark 8:35-37, NIV

IT CANNOT STEAL ETERNAL LIFE
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16, TLB)

I give them eternal life and they shall never perish. No one shall snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else, so no one can kidnap them from me. (John 10:28-29, TLB)

I have written this to you who believe in the Son of God so that you may know you have eternal life.
I John 5:13, TLB

IT CANNOT CONQUER THE SPIRIT
And if the Spirit of God, who raised up Jesus from the dead, lives in you, he will make your dying bodies live again after you die, by means of this same Holy Spirit living within you.
Romans 8:11, TLB
